OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha has new fireworks rules, and sales start tomorrow.
Residents are only allowed to light their fireworks off in city limits next Tuesday through Thursday. The minimum age to handle fireworks is 16 years old, and children aged 12 through 15 are only allowed to use fireworks with adult supervision.
Back in September of last year, the City Council voted to shorten the fireworks season to three days, and cut the number of vendor permits from 50 to 40. The previous fireworks season lasted ten days, and the new ordinance also calls for just a week of sales between June 28 and July 4.
Mayor Jean Stothert originally proposed changes to the fireworks ordinances last June.
