Fireworks are a step closer to being legal in Iowa.
The Iowa Senate approved a bill to legalize the sale and use of fireworks such as firecrackers and roman candles which are currently illegal. The bill allows the use of those types of fireworks between certain days in June, July, December and January. Cities and counties would be able to restrict the use of fireworks, but not sales.
Lawmakers have tried for years to legalize consumer fireworks, but previous attempts failed over safety concerns.
