OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — If you're looking for a way to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day, Fontenelle Forest is offering a free way to do so which they say will help Monarch butterflies in the process.
From now through Arbor Day (April 27), Fontenelle Forest is offering free Milkweed plants to visitors.
They say while trees are great, they often need to be planted in appropriate places:
"Native flowers are more diverse in where they can (and should) thrive.” said Michelle Foss, manager of stewardship and research at Fontenelle Forest. “Rather than planting trees where they don’t belong, plant native milkweed instead! It’s a safe bet for the ecosystem, and the pollinators will thank you.”
