OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — A U.S. District Court Judge sentenced Steven Whitesel, 54, Friday for embezzling while serving as the postmaster for the Fort Calhoun Post Office, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Joseph Kelly's office. He was convicted of misappropriating postal funds.
Whitesel of Council Bluffs submitted false mileage reimbursement requests totaling nearly $70,000 between 2014 and 2017. He had the money reimbursed to himself.
His sentence includes four years probation, 160 hours of community service and a fine of $5,500. He must also pay restitution.
The U.S. Postal Service Inspector General investigated the case.
