Former UNO professor to challenge U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer

Posted

Former UNO mathematics professor Jack Heidel announced he is running for U.S. Senate, challenging Deb Fischer in the Republican primary.

Heidel, 79, retired from UNO in 2017 after teaching there since 1984.

According to his website, his focus is reducing the national debt, which he called a serious problem that is "largely being ignored by most of our national leaders, including Deb Fischer."

This is not Heidel's first run for office, in 2012 he challenged Congressman Lee Terry in the GOP primary, finishing third with 4 percent of the vote.
