Fourth-graders at Pawnee Elementary in Bellevue honored Omaha's fallen heroes in an artistic way.

Last year, Horses of Honor Omaha, painted eight-life sized horse statues to honor all of the officers who died in the line of duty. The artwork was designed to remind people of the work area police officers do.

Pawnee art teacher Amelia Koneck re-created the project at her school. She gave her students a smaller version of the large horses to design in honor of their personal heroes.

“I too want to make a difference with my young artists," Koneck said. "I want for them to realize that there are heroes among us, as well as those who have passed. I want for them to recognize good and to inspire them to do well and to make a difference."

Omaha Police Department tweeted out photos of the artwork calling it "inspiring" and thanking Koneck and her students for honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
