A Fremont County deputy was hospitalized for frostbite Tuesday morning. The deputy was pursuing a stolen car near Thurman, Iowa and followed the vehicle into a field.

The suspects crashed the vehicle then ran toward a creek. One of the suspects was caught by a K9 and is now at Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs being treated for dog bites and hypothermia. According to a release, the suspect kicked the K9 in the face and attempted to run again, but the K9 was able to hang on and drag the suspect to his handler.

Authorities say the frostbitten deputy should be fine and the suspect faces numerous charges pending further investigation.
