FREMONT, Nebraska (KMTV) — The Fremont Police Department is warning citizens after a woman reported a suspicious call from someone claiming to be with the Fremont Department of Utilities.

According to police, a woman reported that the caller said her bill was overdue and if she did not provide payment, her power would be shut off.

The woman was asked for her checking account and routing number, which she did not provide.

Police are using the incident to remind people that the Department of Utilities will never call and demand payment for any overdue bill or threaten an immediate loss of power.

If you receive a call like that, police urge you to hang up.
