We're learning more about the Council Bluffs woman in the vehicle with two Des Moines PD officers when they were hit by a wrong way driver.
Tosha Hyatt, 32, is a mother of four who friends say loved her family, but did have trouble with the law. Hyatt was booked March 22nd in the Pottawattamie County Jail for possession of prescription drugs, but before she could get out she needed to face an arrest warrant in Polk County for domestic violence.
Her boyfriend, Justin Schellhorn, says they'd been dating for a month and he was helping her move forward.
"I told her I loved her and the last time I saw her I came and posted her bond so that she could get this taken care of in Des Moines and I didn't know it would be the last time I'd talk to her again,” Schellhorn explained.
Early morning on March 26th, Hyatt and two Des Moines officers, Susan Farrell and Carlos Puentes-Morales, were on I-80 near the city when a wrong-way driver struck their SUV. All 3 were killed.
Friends want everyone to know Hyatt wasn't just a prisoner.
"I would just like people to know that she's just a good person. Just because she had a bad past doesn't mean she wasn't going somewhere in the future,” said Saige Durham, a friend.
The driver of the other vehicle, 25-year-old Benjamin Beary, was also killed. His family said he was watching basketball with friends that evening.
The investigation into this crash is ongoing, and they haven't determined whether or not alcohol was a factor.
