Challenger Heath Mello is hoping to unseat incumbent mayor Jean Stothert. the 37-year-old former State Senator voted this morning at a school at Karen Western Elementary School at 62nd and H.
He's been pushing hard for the last few weeks, criticizing the mayor for spreading the police department too thin by annexing neighborhoods.
Mello is hoping to close the small gap between him and Mayor Stothert during the primaries. He said that during this campaign they had a good opportunity to present a positive vision for the city moving forward. Win or lose they feel they have done everything they could to present voters a different choice for mayor.
