On the eve of what Governor Pete Ricketts declared Scott Frost Day in Nebraska, Cornhusker fans hope eight months of anticipation results in a season opening win over Akron.
Just outside Memorial Stadium, fans like Jeff Klein are already claiming their spots for tailgating. Klein's family has been setting up here for decades.
We talked to Klein at the start of last season, but when things went south for the Huskers.
That's when they skipped out on the last two home games.
"It just wasn't fun anymore," Klein said. "It wasn't enjoyable to do all this work to watch them get beat that bad."
On campus, the University welcomed hundreds of Husker alumni. That's where Chancellor Ronnie Green revealed September 1 is officially Scott Frost Day with the document to prove it, but athletic director Bill Moos reminded fans a turnaround could take time.
"Be patient, but also be ready to buy bowl tickets because we plan on going somewhere," Moos said."
Season ticket holders like Brian Smith like the sound of that. He made his way from California and saw a lot of familiar faces at the first Football Friday.
If things go according to plan and the team start winning, Smith says these alumni events are going to get busier.
"It's pretty crazy right now, but yeah, the momentum will just build if they have a lot of success," Smith said.
A couple hours closer to kickoff and Klein's set-up is ready for action. The family has arrived and all that's left to do is wait for kickoff.
"If we come out and blow somebody out tomorrow and then Colorado comes to town and we give them and old fashioned Husker whoopin', it's going to be crazy around here," Klein said.
Eight months after his hiring, the Scott Frost era officially begins Friday night at 7 against Akron.
