OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Hy-Vee is donating one million pounds of food to food banks across the Midwest.

The Food Bank for the Heartland is among those getting the donated food.

Hy-Vee worked with partnering suppliers to fill more than 200 truckloads of food and supplies.

The deliveries included meat, produce, dairy and non-perishables. They also collected monetary donations.

“Hy-Vee sent trucks to Food Bank for the Heartland and Food Bank of Lincoln here in NE and then food banks all across the Midwest, filled with food to feed hungry families all across the region at a time where more people than ever are struggling with food insecurity because of the pandemic,” said Hy-Vee Communications Manager, Angie Grote.

The effort is part of Hy-Vee's goodwill initiative over the holiday season which is designed to combat food insecurity, especially during the pandemic.
