A promise for free groceries is too good to be true, a major Midwest grocery chain cautions.
Hy-Vee is warning customers of an online grocery giveaway that is a scam.
“The giveaway is not affiliated with or supported by Hy-Vee, and customers are urged to not engage with the scam website or provide their personal information,” Hy-Vee said in a prepared statement Friday, urging anyone who shared the post on social media to delete it.
They say the fake giveaway features an unaffiliated URL and promises to give people $150 worth of groceries for their birthday.
An example of what the post looks like on Facebook is included in the gallery above.
The scam also uses a URL that uses the grocery store’s name. It looks something like this: Hy-vee-comx18382u.cdkfo.xyz/hy-vee/?a370194g
They say you should have your computer scanned for viruses and change your passwords if you clicked the link and provided any personal information.
