I-29 shut down for hazmat spill Sunday

A crash involving hazardous materials on I-29 shut down the highway for hours Sunday between Exit 75: US 30 (Missouri Valley) and Exit 89: IA 127 (near Mondamin).

According to Iowa State Patrol, a semi truck carrying hazardous materials began leaking around 12:30 p.m. at mile marker 86 of I-29. 

Both I-29 northbound and southbound lanes are closed going into Sunday night. There is no immediate time frame when the road will be open.

The releaese states, north bound traffic is being diverted at exit 75 Missouri Valley and south bound will be diverted at exit 112 Onawa to Nebraska.

Tri-County Hazmat and Council Bluffs fire Hazmat team are on location.
