Our TV and radio stations at Scripps Omaha are really proud of an effort this year to promote literacy in our community.

Along with matching funds from the Scripps Howard Foundation and members of the Scripps family, we raised $3,780. We used that money to purchase more than 1,500 books through Scholastic.

The books were donated to Completely KIDS. The Omaha organization helps more than 2,000 children and families overcome barriers like poverty to succeed.

Across the country, employees of the E.W. Scripps Company donated more than 100,000 to benefit children in their respective communities.

On this National Reading Day, we are proud to tell you about this effort, and would also love to see you take part by sharing photos of your children reading or with their favorite book on social media. Please share them with the 3 News Now Facebook page or email them to Jennifer.Griswold@3NewsNow.com. We invite you to use the hashtag #GiveAChildABook.
