OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Twenty-two year old inmate Jesus Munoz died shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, according to Douglas County Dept. of Corrections director Mike Myers.

After Munoz was found in his cell in medical distress, Dept. of Corrections staff initiated emergency medical care, which was continued by Omaha Fire Dept. personnel.

Munoz was declared dead shortly after.

He was extradited from California for violation of probation on a felony gun charge and was serving 180 days at Douglas County Dept. of Corrections.

Officials with the Douglas County Dept. of Corrections have no further comment pending the resolution of a grand jury investigation, which is required anytime an inmate dies in correctional custody in Nebraska.
