TECUMSEH, Neb. (KMTV) — Two inmates attacked four staff members at the Tecumseh State Prison Saturday morning. The incident left one staffer seriously injured.

It began when one inmate refused a cell search and appeared to be disposing homemade alcohol in a toilet, according to a Nebraska Department of Corrections news release.

When the inmate refused to let staff members inside the cell, chemicals were used to gain control of the inmate.

A second inmate, who was also in the cell, punched a staff member in the head.

Then, the pair started to kick, punch and knee the responding staff members.

Prison staff eventually restrained both men.

The housing unit was placed on modified operations when other nearby inmates refused to follow directions.

The four staff members were taken to the hospital. One was diagnosed with a concussion while the others had scrapes and bruises.

The county attorney will review the incident and determine criminal charges.
