Inmate's family files wrongful death lawsuit

Posted
The family of an inmate killed in last year's riot at the Tecumseh state prison is suing the state of Nebraska.

46 year old Shon Collins' mother Susan Collins filed a wrongful death claim against the state earlier this year, alleging that the prison's administrators and employers were responsible for his death because they failed to contain, control or stop the 11 hour riot on May 10th and 11th. 2015.  Collins was one of two sex offenders beaten to death, presumably by other inmates during the riot. Collins' family is seeking $1.2 million in damages.

A Department of Correctional Services spokesman declined to comment on the pending litigation. A Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
