A 19-year-old University of Nebraska, Omaha, student is speaking out after he was injured fleeing from gunfire Saturday night.

Gregory Austin says he's haunted by the shooting near Gene Leahy Mall. Austin says and his friends were innocent bystanders, caught in what he believes was crossfire.

Omaha police say the shooting was gang-related.

Austin says he was parked in a car on the south side of the mall when the shots were fired. He bailed out of the car, cutting his hand in the process and his friend was shot in the foot.

"We were originally there just to have fun," Austin said. "None of us is part of a gang. None of us have dealt with that and none of us is a part of that. And it frustrates me to say, 'Why us?'"

Austin says his heart goes out to the family of Jasmine Harris for their loss. She was killed during the gunfight.

A public meeting to discuss possible new safety measures will take place Wednesday evening.
