The Bengels of Atlantic, Iowa, thought they had enough time.

“We hung out at home for a little while because I was like it’ll be a couple of hours, we’ll be fine,” said Erica Bengel.

Their baby girl had other plans.

“Hey I’m on the Elkhorn ramp and my wife is getting ready to have a baby,” said a Chris Bengel on a 911 recording.

Less than 10 minutes into their trip, Erica Bengel went into labor miles away from the hospital in Council Bluffs.

Chris Bengel admits he was speeding, but baby Brinley was moving just as fast.

“I got to the next exit and pulled over to the shoulder and dispatch talked me through it and soon enough Miss Brinley appeared,” said Chris Bengel.

Chris and Erica delivered their baby girl in their pickup truck at 7:11 Tuesday morning on an I-80 exit ramp in Iowa.

“You just do what you have to do and literally your instincts kick in.  You do what you need to, it was crazy,” said Erica Bengel.

Naturally Erica wanted proof of her delivery.

“I’m just gonna take a selfie I guess, I just had a baby in a truck,” said Erica Bengel.

Word quickly got around about Brinley’s birth.

“I literally hadn’t posted anything on Facebook and I bet we’ve had like 500 messages from people, even people we don’t know messaging us saying hey good job,” said Erica Bengel.

Chris says he couldn’t have successfully delivered his daughter without the help of the 911 dispatcher and his wife.

“I did it, but I don’t know if I can do it again,” said Chris Bengel
