Iowa passed the most restrictive abortion bill in the country Tuesday when lawmakers approved the "heartbeat bill."

If signed by Governor Kim Reynolds, the bill would ban most abortions once a heartbeat is detected, which doctors say can happen as early as six weeks.

The bill includes exceptions for rape, incest and threats to the mother's life. The house vote came after more than nine hours of debate.
