ANKENY, Iowa (KMTV) — Iowans can now choose an all-black license plate with white lettering. Iowa Department of Transportation started offering the "Blackout" speciality plate option on July 1st.
The last legislative session authorized them.
The new plates cost $35 for the standard plate. A personalized plate is an additional $25.
Funds collected from the blackout plate will go into the Road Use Tax Fund, which supports state, county and city road and bridge projects throughout the Hawkeye State.
