Jeffrey Eggeling appears in court Wednesday

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The man accused of driving drunk and hitting and killing 14-year-old Trevor Canaday and injuring his father appeared in court Wednesday.

Prosecutors charged Jeffrey Eggeling with motor vehicle homicide in the death of Canaday. He was also charged with leaving the scene of a crash.

According to prosecutors, Eggeling was traveling 69 MPH in 45 MPH zone when he ran a red light, hitting the Canaday's vehicle. Trevor died of blunt force trauma. The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. Suday, three hours later, Eggeling's BAC was still over the legal limit at .103.

Eggeling also admitted to fleeing the scene because of prior DUIs. Eggeling has two DUI convictions.

He is being held on $750,000 bond.
