Juror reviews careful decision in Garcia verdict

Thorough and careful examination led a jury to find Anthony Garcia guilty in the Creighton Killings.  Jurors went through thousands of pieces of evidence and hours of testimony.

The jury deliberated for 7 hours to find Garcia guilty of killing Thomas Hunter and Shirlee Sherman in 2008, and Dr. Roger and Mary Brumback in 2013 as revenge for being fired from the Creighton Pathology Dept. in 2001.

Juror Drew Lyons tells KMTV they started deliberations by going through all the witnesses and deciding who was and who wasn't credible.  Then they made a timeline of events by going through all the evidence...to see if it was feasible for Garcia to commit the murders.

"We were able to reach a consensus on virtually everything and the way the prosecution had constructed the case it actually was a logical progression," Lyons explained.

They also discussed every piece of evidence: the gun, the phone records, and the DNA.  Though it didn't influence his decision, Lyons says the gruesome crime scene photos and what happened to Tommy hunter won't soon leave him.

In the end, he's still confident the responsible party was found guilty.

"I have absolutely no qualms in my mind at all that we made the right decision, and that he's the guy, and he's a bad guy,” Lyons described. “He may not have been done."

The jury then came back on October 28 and found there were 10 aggravating circumstances to make Garcia eligible for the death penalty.  That hearing hasn't been scheduled with the 3-judge panel yet.
