The Nebraska Department of Transportation said during the month of February, there were 18 fatalities and 14 were not wearing a seat belt. 32 fatalities in total this year.
NDOT said four of the fatalities occurred on the interstate, eleven were on other highways, and three took place on local roads.
Sixteen of the fatalities occurred in rural locations, and seven occurred in head-on collisions.
"It's frustrating, we've been working for a number of years to increase seatbelt use in the state," said President and CEO of the National Safety Council of Nebraska Eric Koeppe.
In Iowa, so far this year, there are a total of 55 fatalities with 14 not wearing a seat belt.
Monday morning Council Bluffs Police said at 6:00a.m. there was a roll-over accident involving a pick-up truck pulling a single axle trailer which became unhitched.
Two other vehicles were involved and caused minor injuries. Everyone was wearing their seat belts.
