OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — According to our partners at the Omaha World Herald, State Senator Steve Halloran of Hastings wants teachers to be armed so that they can respond to school shootings quicker.

He introduced a new effort on Wednesday to allow teachers and school staff to carry concealed guns.

His Legislative Bill 343, or the School Safety Rapid Repsonse Option Act, would give school districts, college and university personnel the option to carry a handgun on campus. That is if of they pass a state concealed carry class.

A year ago, the Omaha Public Schools board voted to oppose allowing teachers to carry guns in schools.
