Lincoln mailboxes set for removal will now stay

LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) — Impacts of major changes for the U.S. Postal Service are possibly being seen in Nebraska.

KMTV located at least three mailboxes in downtown Lincoln near the Nebraska State Capitol that had been tagged for removal; one at 14 & H Streets, another on the Lincoln Mall, and one at 11 & G Streets.

A USPS spokesman did not return a call from KMTV for comment, but sorting and mailboxes have been removed around the country. President Trump has been accused of trying to undermine mail-in voting.

Thia Hartley lives near one of the Lincoln mailboxes and says she was shocked to see that.

“I was outraged because there’s an election coming up and this neighborhood is full of lower income people and disabled people, and this mailbox would direct us to a mailbox that’s half a block from Senator Sasse’s office that’s full of nice office buildings. They don’t need the mailbox there. We need it here,” Hartley explained.

By late Tuesday morning a man was removing the signs from the tagged mailboxes. They are apparently no longer being taken away.

The U.S. Postmaster General announced on Tuesday all changes will now be delayed until after the election.
