Police and area pharmacies take a big step in the fight against opioid abuse tonight.
The Livewise Coalition says they teamed up to take nearly 2,500 pounds off metro-area streets today.
It's all part of the National Prescription Pill Take-Back Day.
The DEA worked with law enforcement agencies for the effort.
Last October - people turned in 450 tons of unused or expired prescription drugs across the country.
