A central Nebraska man is accused of trying to hire someone to kill his estranged wife.
The Nebraska State Patrol says 37-year-old Robert Honken, of Aurora, was arrested on Monday after paying an undercover trooper as part of a murder-for-hire plot.
“He provided the undercover investigator with a cash deposit for the murder of his estranged wife with the remainder of the agreed upon price to be paid after the murder was completed,” investigators said in a statement Tuesday.
NSP says they began investigating after they were contacted by the Aurora Police Department on Friday, Feb. 26.
Officials say a second suspect, 30-year-old Derrick Shirley, of Bradshaw, was paid in a previous arrangement with Honken to kill his wife.
Shirley was arrested and booked into jail in Hamilton County. Both men face charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
