OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha Police have confirmed a man died Sunday after being injured from an artillery shell firework.
Johnny Ray Knight, 28, was taken to the hospital after suffering critical injuries to his chest after the firework exploded. He later died from his injuries.
This happened at a home in the 4200 Block of Ames Avenue around 5:44 p.m.
Neighbors were reported as saying they heard a loud explosion then saw people pressing towels onto the man's chest.
The investigation revealed that Knight was mishandling the firework, which was bought legally in Omaha.
OPD suggests individuals follow manufacturer instructions when using fireworks.
