An Omaha man who struck and killed a Public Works crewman who was patching potholes last January has been sentenced.

A Douglas County Judge sentenced Alan Solarana to 14 days in jail and two years probation for his guilty plea to misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.  However, the court will consider house arrest or work release.

Solarana was driving near 144th and U in Millard on January 23, 2017 when his car veered out of his lane and struck Salvatore Fidone.  Fidone later died from his injuries.

Public Works says the crew was following all proper procedures when the accident happened.
