Man shot by deputy after accelerating car toward law enforcement

Two people were shot during an altercation with a Douglas County Sheriff's deputy at Lake Cunningham Park near 96th and State Street, 

The incident began around 12:15 a.m. Sunday morning when a deputy approached a parked car with three people inside. 

According to a release, the deputy asked the three people inside the car to give identification and remain inside the car. 

That's when the driver, 18-year-old Cameron Cottrell, ignored commands and accelerated the car toward the deputy. He was struck by the car. 

The Deputy then fire multiple shots into the car. 

Cottrell was shot at least one time and the female juvenile passenger was also hit by a bullet. 

The other adult passenger had minor injuries from a shattered window. The deputy was hit by the car, and taken to the hospital and released. 

Cottrell is in stable condition and will undergo surgery. 

The Deputy has been placed on Administrative Leave as part of DCSO policy on Deputy Involved Shootings.
