Mayor Jean Stothert has named Dr. Franklin Thompson as the new City of Omaha Human Rights and Relations Director.
The role of the department is to investigate discrimination complaint and civil rights violations, promote diversity and provide academic support to several volunteer boards and commissions.
Thompson served four consecutive terms on the city council from 2001 until 2017.
"I have worked with Dr. Thompson for eight years as colleagues on the Omaha City Council and later as mayor," Stothert said in a release. "He was the unique mix of professional, academic and management skills to assist citizens and lead the staff ot the Human Rights and Relations Department."
