Catholics who also enjoy St. Patrick's Day celebrations may have noticed the holiday falls on a Friday this year. Don't worry though, you may still enjoy some corned beef even during Lent.
We reached out to the Omaha Archdiocese today and Archbishop George Lucas is providing dispensation for Catholics to eat meat next Friday, March 17th. However, there is one stipulation. Area Catholics who choose to eat meat on St. Patrick's Day are to abstain from eating it the next day which is Saturday, March 18th.
Catholic leaders across the country are making similar decisions. Omaha native, Cardinal Blaise Cupich, the archbishop of Chicago, also said his flock can eat meat next Friday. There is a stipulation for people in his archdiocese too. Those who do eat meat are asked to find another form of penance.
