COUNCIL BLUFFS, Neb. (KMTV) — The Council Bluffs Police Department said on Thursday that two men were charged for allegedly beating a 60-year-old man unconscious and leaving him in the street.
According to a police report, witnesses saw 21-year-old Thomas Smith and 19-year-old Hunter Dunn, both of Council Bluffs, assault 60-year-old Adolph Phillips Jr. near 17th and West Broadway streets Thursday morning. Witnesses say the two punched Phillips and began kicking him in the head and body when he fell to the ground.
While police were responding to the scene, police say several witnesses called dispatch, relaying descriptions of the suspects as well as their direction of travel as they left on foot.
Smith and Dunn were located by police and charged with willful injury, a Class C Felony.
Phillips Jr. was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being released.
Police thanked witnesses for helping them locate the two suspects.
