Doctors at Nebraska Medicine have performed their first lung transplant since announcing the program’s return in November.
“Transplant team members at Nebraska Medicine recently performed the first lung transplant on a patient in need of this life-saving procedure. This marks the first time the operation has been done since launching the program at the end of 2015. Our patient has requested privacy during their recovery and this is all we’re able to share at this time,” said Nebraska Medicine spokesperson Taylor Wilson in a prepared statement Tuesday.
Officials with the health care system say they can’t release anymore details because of patient privacy.
In November, Nebraska Medicine revealed the return of the program after a 17-year hiatus.
