LA PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — Authorities in eastern Nebraska have made an arrest in the crash death of a motorcyclist.
The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Michael Burch was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony vehicular homicide, willful reckless driving and leaving the scene of the Aug. 13 crash on U.S. Highway 75, a few hundred yards south of U.S. Highway 34.
The crash killed 47-year-old Jody Emmert, of Bellevue. Investigators say Emmert was operating a motorcycle that collided with another vehicle, triggering a secondary crash between a work van and a pickup truck that were trailing the motorcycle. Investigators say Burch had been driving in a willfully reckless manner when the crash happened. Officials say Burch did not stop after the collision, but later returned to the scene.
