NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (KMTV) - One could call Patty Madsen a typical senior: close to her grandchildren, passionate about puzzles and an active traveler. But she also spends at least 40 hours a week taking care of other seniors.

"We had one lady that was under 100 pounds and she was just the sweetest thing," Madsen said. "Anything I could do to help her made me feel better."

Madsen's clients are confined to their homes, so she makes sure she informs them about the world.

"There's been some clients I've taken them for a ride around Nebraska City that lived here for quite a number of years and haven't been able to get out," Madsen said.

Seniors Helping Seniors is honoring Madsen as one of its "Tougher than 2020 Caregivers." But Madsen insists she is the one honored to be in her position.

"I feel like I've grown in my knowledge and my friends, cause they've all become friends," Madsen said.

She promises to bring comfort to others by staying positive. Tougher than 2020 is a title Madsen will stick to as the world waits for the pandemic to end.

"We will get through this, we will," Madsen said.
