FREMONT, Neb. (KMTV) — Staffers at The Nebraska State Fair are asking you to 'bomb a tree.'

As we we lead up to The Nebraska State Fair, decorating trees is getting the statewide excitement started. People can take their creativity to the trees and decorate a tree in any theme they want.

"Be inspired by what inspires you," said Laura Harley with Sponsorships and Hospitality at the Nebraska State Fair. "Go through your closets and garage or hit a couple of garage sales, and this is basically all you need. And can give your inspiration for your tree bomb."

The only requirement is that the Nebraska State Fair logo has to be placed somewhere in the design.

Along with your home, you can decorate a tree at your job, school, church or neighborhood park, providing you have the proper permission.

"The State Fair has something for everyone, so I wanted to incorporate a lot of different colors in the tree that I did," said Gretchen Kirchmann with Media & Marketing at the Nebraska State Fair. "I like to go to a lot of thrift shops so this was really easy to do."

We found trees decorated with a Husker theme, one person put Halloween decorations to use and did a "scare off COVID-19" tree, and even one in memory of a loved one.

The goal is community engagement, but prizes are also awarded.

"You can win concert tickets, meet and greet with artists," adds Harley.

Once you have that picture perfect tree, take two photos and send them in by August 31, 2020. Go to https://www.statefair.org/.

The Nebraska State Fair is August 28 - September 7. It is free to attend this year.
