Three Nebraska State Penitentiary staff members responding to an inmate's medical emergency were assaulted early Tuesday.
At around 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, staff observed blood in a cell where an inmate appeared agitated, according to an NSP press release issued Wednesday afternoon.
Upon opening the cell door, the inmate struck all three staff members in the head and shoved one staff member's head into a wall, according to the release. The resulting injuries left one staff member with a concussion; another with a sprain, resulting in his absence from work.
According to the release, a misconduct report is expected to be issued and a disciplinary hearing held to determine sanctions relative to the incident.
An NDCS investigation is pending, the release states, and evidence will be provided to the county attorney to review and determine whether prosecution is warranted.
