OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Neighbors nearby the intersection of 63rd and Shirley just outside Aksarben Village are frustrated.

The intersection, which connects neighborhoods to shopping and dining, is also home to portions of UNO's campus and housing.

But it's also the site of many serious traffic collisions.

People in the area tell 3 News Now they're concerned about uncontrolled traffic speeding through the 63rd and Shirley intersection and there's no designated pedestrian crossing. They say with business expansion in Aksarben, it's urgent the city install a pedestrian crosswalk or traffic signals.

Neighbors say they've reached out to the city many times with no response and now they're turning to community activism to try to spark change through the Facebook page "63rd and Shirley You Can't be Serious" and Omaha Citizen News.

The city plans to install a roundabout this year to slow traffic through the intersection, but residents say a roundabout won't be equipped to deal with the heavy flow of traffic caused by nearby developments.
