UPDATE: The Lincoln Police Department has released the name of the man killed in the officer involved shooting. They say 29-year-old Zachary Grigsby, of Central City, was the suspect who shot at officers, forcing them to return fire.

Authorities say a man fatally shot by Lincoln police officers said he “wasn’t going to jail” before firing his own gun at them.
Lincoln Police Chief Jim Peschong released new details Monday about what happened in a Sunday evening officer-involved shooting that left the suspect dead and two officers injured.
The suspect, a 29-year-old man from Central City, Nebraska, was sitting in a car with stolen plates, according to Peschong, when an officer made contact and discovered warrants for his arrest out of Merrick County.
The man said he “wasn’t going to jail” and pulled out a gun, Peschong said. One officer was shot in the arm, and another was punched several times in the face, he added.
Peschong said the man was shot as he was pointing the gun at another officer and died at the scene.
Police took five people into custody from a nearby home where the car’s passenger ran, but they were interviewed and released.
Three officers are on administrative leave, a standard procedure as an internal investigation is conducted.
Authorities have not yet identified the officers.
