OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The Omaha Police Department is doing what it can to keep drivers safe on the roads thanks to a grant.

The OPD Traffic Unit is conducting extra traffic enforcement through the month of the April in hopes of cutting down on excessive speeding.

Officers will also be looking out for drivers who may be distracted by things like cell phones or other electronic devices. Police say that of the 37 fatal accidents they investigated in 2018, high speeds were a factor in 14 of them.
