OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — On Thursday, the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) said customers are reporting calls from scammers who are threatening to shut off service if payment isn't made immediately.

Callers in Omaha, Council Bluffs and Grand Island made the reports and NPPD said no one has reported paying the scammers so far.

One person said the scammer offered to help them log on to their online bank account. The person did not give the scammer any money.

NPPD said it does not serve customers in the areas of Omaha, Council Bluffs, or Grand Island and said it does "not conduct business this way, and would not call someone to demand payment."

Anyone who is concerned about their account or thinks they were contacted by a scammer is asked to call customer service at 1-877-275-6773.
