OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Some students within the Westside School District are retuning
from winter break to a brand new building.
The district opened Oakdale Elementary near 98th Avenue and W. Center Road
Wednesday morning after students, staff and teachers spent 18 months at a "swing school" during construction.
3 News Now recently received a sneak peek before the big move-in day to tour the $14 million project.
According to Principal Glen Jagels, the two-story facility features flexible learning spaces, breakout areas for lessons and historical elements from the old building, such as hints of a Tudor-style and library desk comprised of old wood.
Second grade teacher Ali Pontious says she loves the style merge.
"I think it's really neat that we are integrating a lot of the old with the new and its making sure Oakdale - the tradition - lives on and it continues," she said.
