Omaha Police are asking people to stay alert while driving. The department's official Twitter account tweeted the state needs stronger laws when it comes to distracted driving and said it can just as danger as driving under the influence.

We need stronger distracted driving laws. In 2016, distracted driving claimed 3,450 lives on our nation’s roads according to @NHTSAgov. However, I do not waiver on seatbelt use and enforcement. All lives are precious. via @OPDSgtBonacci
