A report of "shots fired" about 7:30 a.m. Thursday near 36th and Laurel streets escalated into a standoff with Omaha Police for several hours.
According to an OPD press release, a man barricaded himself in a home in that neighborhood not long after officers responded.
Neighbors told officers arriving on scene that a shot had been heard from inside the residence, the release states. Officers tried to establish contact with the man in the home, who showed officers a weapon, the release states.
According to OPD Deputy Chief Kerry Neumann, the SWAT team tried to communicate with the suspect during the standoff, and heard shots coming from inside the house.
No officers were injured and residents in the immediate area were evacuated.
At about 1:15 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody by police.
The investigation is ongoing.
