Officials with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office say one person was killed in a two vehicle crash near Malcolm, NE on Monday afternoon.

The fatal crash occurred at 2:10 p.m. in the 13700 block of West Bluff Road.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a Peterbilt dump truck was traveling westbound on West Bluff Road and stopped on the roadway before it was to turn northbound into a private driveway.

LCSO officials say a westbound 2008 Chevrolet Equinox collided into the rear of the dump truck.

The driver of the Peterbilt, 55 year-old Madonna Rairigh  was not injured.

The driver and lone occupant of the Equinox, 74 year-old Veda Beckman was pronounced dead at the scene after resuscitation efforts were not successful.

Currently, the autopsy results are pending.

Officials say that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash and Seat belts were in use in the Peterbilt but were not in use in the Equinox.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

LCSO is being assisted in the investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.
