OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Pounding the pavement, Karsen Walsh, his mom and a good friend scour Downtown Omaha looking for those who may need gloves, a coat or even a blanket.
"These people that are out here stuck can't do much about it. People just don't understand when they say they need to get a job. It's hard for them to get a job especially with Covid to get one," said Karsen Walsh.
They drive 3.5 hours from O'Neil every year. The hundreds of items passed out is a community wide effort in O'Neill where friends and neighbors help out.
"Last year we brought down two different vehicles full, there is so much we have brought down and even with this full carload we still have a lot left in O'Neil to bring down, a whole porch full," continued Karsen.
Karsen has come to Omaha every year for the past five years. His driver, his mom says she is always ready and eager to help.
"I want my children to live their dreams and passions, and this is Karsen's passion so for me to take off from work and bring him down here and spend my time and money, it is just a drop in the bucket," added Kim Walsh, Karsen's mom.
"I feel like donating is the best way to go, if you are ever in their shoes one day you are going to want people to treat you nice and you are going to need help and if you are not going to get it, you will understand" continued Karsen.
Karsen says he plan to do this as long as there is a need.
