OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The Omaha Police Department (OPD) says an armed man had the tables turned on him after invading a home and attempting to steal two dogs.

On Tuesday, just before noon, OPD says officers responded to a home invasion call near 48th and Maple and spoke with a man who said an armed suspect entered his home and tried to steal two dogs.

During the incident, the victim said he resisted the suspect and was able to disarm and shoot him.

Shortly after the attempted robbery, police received information about a walk-in shooting victim at a nearby hospital and determined the person was the home invasion suspect.

After being treated for non-life-threatening gunshot injuries, 29-year-old Demetrion Washington was released and booked into Douglas County Corrections for attempted robbery and bond review in relation to an upcoming trial in which he was facing charges related to another robbery.
